FeedPaper http://feedpaper.tom-kmec.net Blog feed for FeedPaper Telephony feature required for installation via Android Market http://feedpaper.tom-kmec.net/blog/telephony-feature-required-for-installation-via-android-market-26319 Sun, 14 Aug 2011 23:42:04 +0200 Well, first disppointment from Android Market distribution was a quick one: Because SMS reading requires some SMS-related permissions in the application, Android Market requires "android.hardware.telephony" feature to be supported by target device. That means that devices without telephone (tablets) will not see FeedPaper in the Market, although it would work just fine (with SMS provider disabled). At least it can still be downloaded from this site and installed manually. I was trying to get past this problem using recently added Multiple APK Support feature and uploading the same version with just the right permissions and features disabled, but unfortunatelly, this is not the right use case (these are apparently limited to target API level, screen size and OpenGL texture compression at the moment). What does it mean for future development and distribution? Because majority of devices excluded by this restriction are tablets with large screens, which are not too good for FeedPaper anyway, I'll probably keep the current course and target tablets with separate application - resizable widget, without SMS provider. Feedpaper 0.3.0 released http://feedpaper.tom-kmec.net/blog/feedpaper0.3.0-released-26287 Tue, 09 Aug 2011 15:37:50 +0200 Version 0.3 is a very special release. It is the first one to hit the Android Market. I'm very excited about the feedback (also a bit scared of issues on devices I did not test with). This release should deliver most of these features I considered absolute must-be for decent usability, such as background, basic separate settings for lock screen and reworked RSS configuration. You can find more complete list of new features on download page, but if you are new to FeedPaper (which you probably are), head on to About. I'll be happy for any constructive feedback, so go now and express youself :) FeedPaper 0.2.0 released http://feedpaper.tom-kmec.net/blog/feedpaper0.2.0-released-12505 Sun, 13 Mar 2011 22:37:07 +0100 This should be more stable version I would like to distribute amongst wider audience, to get more feedback. Data transfer overview in preferences to check how much data RSS event provider burns, more stable RSS provider, English and Czech localizations, a simple welcome message when no event provider is selected, a simple option to hide past callendar events, fixed a bug with SMS receiver crashing when FeedPaper is no longer active a bit nicer Go ahead and give it a try! :) If you think this application is a good idea, but you miss some feature - check out Planned Features. Priority no. 1 for the next release would be RSS, because current setup is real pain for many reasons. FeedPaper 0.1.0 released http://feedpaper.tom-kmec.net/blog/feedpaper0.1.0-released-10030 Mon, 17 Jan 2011 00:40:50 +0100 5.. 4.. 3.. 1.. Offblast! With the first version of FeedPaper you get RSS Event source with configurable set of URLs Calendar Event source with configurable set of calendars to use SMS Event source with some basic settings The core should be stable, running separate thread for each event provider and trying to stay updated and not waste resources at the same time. This will require more tuning in the future, but the settings should be fine for now. Not much is configurable yet, really - first I have to make sure that FeedPaper works properly on different devices and get some initial feedback. But sure check out Planned Features to see what's comming! So here we go. FeedPaper site launched http://feedpaper.tom-kmec.net/blog/feedpaper-site-launched-10026 Sun, 16 Jan 2011 17:05:36 +0100 Hey there! As the first private beta approaches, I'm setting up this site running on our awesome Cloudia platform. This site should give anyone not only information on recent progress, but also opportunity to affect future development with upvoting or filing in new features you would like to see in FeedPaper. Private beta should be out in a few days, and if noone reports any serious bugs, more people could read these lines in a few weeks. Yay! Here we go!
